(26) Anna Gajda - talk with our advisery board member
Talk with Anna Gajda, being a part of our advisery board. Beekping in Poland is one of the biggest in Europe. In 2025, Poland had approximately 96,600 beekeepers and 2.4 million honey bee colonies. The average beekeeper manages around 25 colonies, and 64% keep no more than 20. Eastern Poland has the most colonies, while southern Poland has the highest colony density. Carniolan bees are the most common. Polen is one of the bigger queen producers and artificial insemination is very well developed. Local European dark bees and the Carniolan Dobra line are included in genetic conservation programmes.
Dr Anna Gajda is a veterinarian with a PhD and heads the Laboratory of Bee Diseases at Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
She researches honey bee and wild pollinator health, teaches and advises beekeepers, and served on the COLOSS Executive Committee for eight years.
